Acute Gastric Dilatation with Necrosis in a Child

Abstract

Acute gastric dilatation of stomach is caused by accumulation of gas, gastric secretions and food material. It is often a radiological diagnosis with lack of clear diagnostic criteria and physician awareness. In acute gastric dilatation, necrosis is a very rare event because of rich blood supply of the stomach. We present a case of a 14-year-old boy who presented with acute abdomen. Emergency laparotomy revealed gastric dilatation with fundic and greater-curvature infarction. Greater-curvature gastrectomy was successful and gave satisfactory results.
