A Review on the Importance of Haematological Markers in Relation to Type 2 Diabetes Monitoring
International Journal of Research and Reports in Hematology · pp. 81–87 · Published 31 Jul 2024
Abstract
Diabetes mellitus is a chronic disease that occurs when the pancreas does not produce enough insulin or when the body cannot effectively use the insulin that it produces. The most common type of diabetes is type II diabetes, which is characterized by insulin resistance or relative insulin deficiency. Diabetes mellitus shows a significant derangement in various hematological parameters such as RBC, platelet, WBC, Red cell indices and RDW. Routine screening of blood cell parameters in poorly controlled T2DM gives an awareness about further complication and should be helpful for regular management of T2DM. This review analyzes the predictive power of hematological parameters for T2DM.
