Bactrim-induced Severe Thrombocytopenia in Pregnancy

A 29-year-old Caucasian woman at 30 weeks’ gestation presented with severe and asymptomatic thrombocytopenia with a platelet count of 17 × 109/L after completing 9 days out of a 10-day course of Bactrim DS for a nasal abscess. Upon further investigation, Bactrim-induced thrombocytopenia was diagnosed. After discontinuing this medication, her laboratory abnormalities immediately improved without any additional interventions.
