Abdominal Cocoon, a Surgical Challenge: A Report of 6 Cases

Abstract
Abdominal Cocoon is an uncommon cause of intestinal obstruction characterized by the complete or partial encapsulation of the small bowel due to the formation of a fibro-collagenous membrane. This condition is predominantly observed in young adolescent girls. It is also known by various terms such as Peritoneal Fibrosis, Peritoneal Sclerosis, Calcified Peritonitis, Encapsulating Peritoneal Sclerosis, or Sclerosing Encapsulated Peritonitis. Abdominal Cocoon can be categorized into two distinct entities: • Idiopathic or Primary Sclerosing Encapsulating Peritonitis. • Secondary Sclerosing Encapsulating Peritonitis, which is the more common type.
